Promoting Your Facebook Page

We started our Facebook page just a short time ago.  Today, we’re rapidly approaching 1,000 fans.  One of the most common questions I’ve gotten lately is “how did you do it?”

We tried paid ads, we tried a few contests and had very little success with them.  I’m not saying that they were complete failures.  Any campaign that attracts a few fans is worth the effort.

We started with people we had relationships with!  People we work with, clients, family & friends.  Getting them engaged put human faces on the brand.  From experience, we knew that people liked to connect with people.  They like personal relationships way above brands.  We also know that most people connect with brands because someone that they know and trust recommended that they connect.  When people look for information on products, companies or brands, they look for experiences that their friends had first.

Armed with that knowledge we asked our friends and family to start liking, commenting on and sharing our posts with their friends.  Some of them became fans.

When we started getting these fans in it was important to keep them.  Of course, we lose a few now and then for one reason or another.  That has to be expected.  We realized that we needed to offer them some kind of benefit.  We chose regular updates with pertinent infomation in our industry and we’ve kept our message positive.

This track has actually paid off big time.  Those fans have become engaged.  They like, comment on and share the content they see on our page so that their friends see it too…  which brings in new fans.

So, start with your friends, family, employees and of course, your customers.  Encourage them to join the conversation and share your content with their friends.  Soon, they’ll join the party too!
